The Intimate Ann
Ann Hathaway, a charming, energetic and talented singer of the soundscapes of Southern California, offered in her first and only album, 'The Intimate Ann' (1957), recorded for Hollywood’s Motif label, a tastefully crafted program marked by an expansive and personal style. Raised in music from childhood, Hathaway built an unusually solid career at an early age, performing on radio, with big bands, and in renowned clubs across the United States and Europe. Guided by Andre Brummer’s refined musical direction, the album blended jazz and classical sensibilities into an intimate, sensual setting that highlighted the depth, warmth and distinctive character of her voice.
Here Comes Carole Creveling!
Carole Creveling was a singer whose voice came from deep within, warm, expressive and instinctively musical. In 'Here Comes Carole Creveling,' recorded in 1955 for the Euterpean label, she moved effortlessly through blues, ballads and up-tempo numbers, giving renewed life to melodies once admired and too often forgotten. The album was shaped by the tasteful support of a quartet led by pianist Bill Baker, with the subtle guitar work of Jimmy Wyble adding refinement and space. Also included was a rare single recorded a year later for the same label, featuring a stronger West Coast rhythm section with Lou Levy on piano. Together, these recordings documented the complete and highly accomplished recorded legacy of an exceptional yet largely overlooked vocalist.
