Gorka Benítez
Gorka Benítez, is one of Spain's most personal and expressive voices in Jazz, he has been a leader in the Jazz scene in Spain for the last 20 years. Born in Bilbao in 1966, began his musical career through folklore. After a period of training in Spain, in the mid-1990s he graduated from the Jazz Studies Program at an art school in New York, where he formed his first trio, performing his own compositions. He eventually moved to Barcelona, where he still resides.
His albums cover a wide range of genres. He debuted as a leader in 1998 with a self-titled album, "Gorka Benítez Trio" accompanied by Rai Ferrer on bass, David Xirgu on drums, Dani Pérez and Ben Monder on guitar. With "Fabou" in 1999, he emerged as a singer and brought on vocalist Carme Canela, with whom he has collaborated on several occasions.
