Trumpeter Phil Grenadiers debut CD is a natural outgrowth of his busy and varied career in San Francisco, New York and Boston. As a sideman on some 15 CDs, here is Phil Grenadiers chance to step into the spotlight.

Grenadiers concept was to produce a spontaneous recording of a wide ranging program of originals, reworked classics and even a Beck tune, that showcase the magic that can occur when musicians with amazing ears and instincts are allowed to play-as in have fun.

Press reviews

"Trumpeter Phil Genadier is the brother of bassist Larry Grenadier, and this may well be his debut album as a leader (I can't trace any previous releases). If so, it is a strong calling card, with an excellent band playing a well-chosen range of material, ranging from a version of the familiar standard 'Alone together' to Beck Hansen's 'Derelict'. It also takes in compositions by Horace Silver, Wayne Shorter, Kenny Wheeler, Anonio carlos Jobim and a joint improvisation along the way.

The trumpeter's own title track makes a powerful openning statement, setting up an energised momentum which they succeed in maintaining through the changing moodsof the rest of the disc. Don't be fooled by the jokey sleeve pictures which show half the band holding the wrong instruments - he is joined by saxophonist Seamus Blake, pianist Ethen Iverson, his brother on bass (with the excepetion of 'Derelict', where Doug Weiss does the honours), and the propulsive drumming of Bill Stewart."

*************************
