This album condenses what I learned and worked on until the day of the recording, and it includes strong influences from Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, James Brown and many more early to mid 20th century artists to younger ones like Ambrose Akinmusire, Gerald Clayton, Roy Hargrove, Aaron Parks, D’angelo, Kendrick Lamar among many more. There are as well influences by all other music that has had an impact on my perspective,many different genres and aesthetics, as this has been my organic way of conceptual development. Further influences are the people I’ve met and collaborated closely with in my life, particularly the musicians in this album, whom I had in mind when writing the music.
The idea was to compose tunes simple enough to be put together quickly, allowing everyone to express their truest selves. "Metal Flexible” represents the idea of developing a strong, informed, sense of aesthetics, while keeping and protecting a childlike flexibility/openness.
