This project appears from the continuation of Martin Diaz quintet, this time becoming a quartet where he stands as a leader of a great band formed by some of the best musicians in the Spanish and Dutch Jazz scene.
This album’s music is directly influenced by and connected to various concepts from the world of psychoanalysis. The album title, as its central theme, presents El Goce, a term from Jacques Lacan translated from the French word jouissance, referring to a repeated satisfaction that transforms into something more akin to displeasure.
With these concepts as a basis, psychoanalysis served Martin as a framework for his writing and composition, shaping both the structure and emotional depth of the music. A frame work deeply rooted in his own life, as his family close environment is dedicated to this field and it remains an integral part of him. The interplay between desire, repetition and the limits of pleasure comes to life in the band’s sound through his vision, as he brings these terms together to shape a sonic experience that mirrors the tension between fulfillment—or Wunscherfüllung, as Sigmund Freud termed it—and frustration. By embracing these psychoanalytic themes, the album offers a complex and immersive journey that challenges listeners to engage with the music on both a mental and visceral level.
