This is my third album for Fresh Sound Records and like my previous ones it documents a new chapterin my life. After several years abroad in New York and Europe my family and I moved back to Stockholm, the city I grew up in and where I began my musical journey.
A significant part of that journey started off with this trio back in 2015. In spite of my living abroad we have managed to play together consistently for more than 10 years now, performing hundreds of concerts, both as a trio as well as with prominent jazz musicians from around the world.
This group has played a profound role in my musical development. Kenji and Moussa are masters of sound and swing, both with impeccable taste and a rare ability to listen and react. Throughout the years we have developed a very deep musical connection through our shared love for the music of Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk, Elmo Hope and Tadd Dameron, among many others.
When we started playing together, Bebop had a limited following in Stockholm. However, some 10 years later the scene has thoroughly changed. There is a whole new generation of audiences and musicians who are devoted to this music and as a result the scene is flourishing. This trio was in many ways at the vanguard of this movement and I’m proud to have played my part in it.
The title track was written on a misty Stockholm morning and tries to capture the bittersweet feeling of returning to my hometown. As I enter into my next chapter I am convinced that this trio will continue to play together and keep making music that inspires us and hopefully others around us for many years to come.
