This work consists of a selection of original compositions written recently. Following 'Beatnick,' released in 2007, and 'Fall Somewhere' in 2012, I now present 'Poney Moon Dance.'
The group featured on this album is the result of a collaboration between Poney Moon, a quartet I formed here in Iceland, and Jeremy Udden —a great friend and one of my favorite saxophonists and composers. I also had the pleasure of adding the outstanding musicians Agnar Már Magnússon and Tómas Jónsson on keyboards, as well as saxophonist Óskar Gudjónsson.
In this album, I focused on the overall sound, the rich palette of colors offered by the ensemble, and the dynamics of interplay —where the collective takes precedence over the individual. I am truly pleased with the balance we achieved during this session, which was a real celebration.
Iceland, life in Iceland, and Icelanders, had been an inspiration for me in the process of making this record, their sense of individual freedom, their flow, their unique originality, that comes from how small the society is, and isolated they had been and still are from the rest of the world, the unpredictable climate, the harsh nature are elements that resonates in their music.
I would like to dedicate this album to Jordi Pujol, who trusted me with this project, and to the Icelandic composer Jón Múli Árnason whose music has inspired the Icelandic scene for decades.
