*****
This sterling release gives indisputable proof that no one has ever or will ever swing like the great Dexter Gordon.
Willie Hansen, Jazz Times

This edition includes Dexter Gordons only two LPs as a leader in the 1950s decade! While it is true that the saxophonist was undergoing a difficult personal battle with heroine at the time, one would never know it when listening to these two outstanding 1955 dates originally issued on the Bethlehem and Dootone labels respectively.
The first session features the saxophonist in a quartet with Kenny Drew, Leroy Vinnegar and Lawrence Marable while the second date boasts a lineup of Carl Perkins, Leroy Vinnegar and Chuck Thompson.
The release also includes two bonus tracks of the latter group joined by trumpeter Jimmy Robinson.
A must have for any fan of the extraordinary tenor.
