" Strange Fruit" is taken as a slow New Orleans March, a "St. Vincent's Infirmary" as a drum march. Jeremy Pelt's trumpet echoes Satchmo and King Oliver, screaming with Marie as she sings of the "smell of burning flesh." Beautifully done and worth the purchase price of the whole disc if for nothing else. This disc is a worthy follow-up to her debut and proves Ms. Marie one of the great high-wire acts in jazz today. “Este es el disco de presentación de Jeremy Pelt, pero no hay nada de
bisoño en él sino una aplastante sensación de estar ante un músico en pleno dominio de sus facultades como instrumentalistas, compositor y líder. Pelt no esconde sino que al contrario revela placenteramente las lecciones tomadas de Freddie Hubbard y Miles Davis en un toque que una el bravado de un músico joven con el control de uno perito. El trompetista se mantiene sereno, perfilando sus líneas con precisión extrema en medio torbellino creado por un Ralph Peterson capaz de construir complejísimas frases a base de divisiones y subdivisiones rítmicas y el apasionado tenor de Jimmy Greene. La seriedad del intento de Pelt es palpable en un grupo de composiciones derivadas de los modelos que quinteto de Davis de los 60 y que abrazan directamente complejidades formales, muy notable en “Jigsaw”. Tan aplaudible es el recato chetbakeriano con que reviste su toque de excelentemente medidas frases en “You Won’t Forget Me”. La dedicación y entrega de la banda, bien ensayada y mejor conjuntada, resulta en todo los temas sobresaliente. El debut del 2002.
