Sture Swenson
Originally released in 1958, The Exhibit presents the distinctive compositions and arrangements of Swedish-born saxophonist and composer Sture Swenson, co-led with drummer Jack Noren. Bringing together some of Chicago’s most creative young jazz talents, the album blends sophisticated writing, adventurous ensemble textures—including the unusual use of four guitars—and inspired solo work.
Swenson’s melancholic baritone enhances the haunting beauty of “Dear Old Stockholm”, while the ambitious “Tamerlane Suite” reveals his imagination as a composer. A striking example of the modern jazz spirit flourishing on both sides of the Atlantic.
