Review:
"The first recording by the Dave Pell octet since the early 1960s finds the veteran tenor saxophonist (who had been working in the interim as a producer and a studio musician) using a completely different personnel than in the early days. Pell and his Los Angeles group (trumpeter Bill Berry, trombonist Bill Watrous, baritonist Med Flory, guitarist Tony Rizzi, pianist Bob Florence, bassist Buddy Clark, and drummer Frank Capp) are featured mostly on updated arrangements. The classic cool jazz sound is revived throughout this CD which includes such numbers as "Tishomingo Blues," "Can't We Be Friends," "There'll Be Some Changes Made," and "Mountain Greenery." The charts were provided by Marty Paich, John Williams, Bob Florence, Shorty Rogers, and Bill Holman. Fortunately Dave Pell has since been working on a regular basis with a new version of his octet; this CD was the start."
