Only previously available on limited edition in Japan, the New York, November 9, 1956 album Third Dimension features the groundbreaking Roland Kirk's first recording as a leader. Accompanied by Jimmy Madison, Carl Pruitt and Henry Hank Duncan, the quartets repertoire is made up primarily of Kirk original compositions. Kirks second date as a leader, the album Introducing Roland Kirk - recorded in Chicago on June 7, 1960 - features a quintet (with Ira Sullivan on trumpet and tenor sax) which showcases Kirk's inimitable skills as an improviser and composer.
