The complete Woody Herman LP Woody Herman 58 appears here on CD for the very first time. An outstanding big band album that was actually recorded in 1957, it presents compositions and arrangements by Gene Roland, Tadd Dameron, Bill Holman, Nat Pierce and John Bunch. Among the herd's stars are trombonist Bill Harris, trumpeter Danny Stiles, tenor saxophonist Jay Migliori and the magic of Woody Herman, the leader, on clarinet and occasionally alto saxophone.
Woody Hermans first band became known for its orchestrations of the blues and was sometimes billed as The Band That Plays the Blues. This album was recorded after the Third Herd had disbanded and before The Thundering Herd began in 1959.
