"A superb hard bop session, taking the trumpeter beyond his swing comfort zone. Adrian 'Johnny' Acea, the barely heard of Pianist on this wrote five of the tunes, and contributes massively to the modernism of the sound, in his playing and writing, Zoot Sims is on top form, loose and fast, seemingly revelling in the newer sounds they are making. Originally on the Rama label, this was more of a Soul home than a jazz label at the time, so full marks retrospectively for getting this session together, where something magic arises from the assembled ingredients. This one will see plenty of turntable time."
