This timeless release includes all the studio sessions of the legendary pianists trios recorded just before his death at 24 from a heroin overdose. He was discovered in a Paris hotel during a European tour with Chet Baker. His pianoplaying was fluent and eccentric and immensely attractive, influenced by Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk and his rich classical music background.
The total among of Twardzik's recorded works includes seven tracks in the Rudy Van Gelders Studio for the Pacific Jazz label with Chet Bakers bassits Carson Smith and Boston drummer Peter Littmann, that was issued as Trio (only one side; the other is by Russ Freeman), and twelve excellent tracks recorded at his friend Peter Morris' Huntington Avenue apartment on a tuned piano accompanied by Littman on drums and one bass on some of the songs. The tunes include Gershwins Bess You Is My Woman (a standard actually completely unknown as a jazz vehicle), I'll Remember April, 'Round About Midnight, and his very creative original A Crutch for the Crab, among others.
