Woody Herman has contributed greatly to the history of Jazz by leading his band for more than 50 years. He was capable of choosing the best musicians and arrangers and let them free to express themselves and play at their best. This CD compiles recordings by the "Third Herd", some of them released in CD for the first time. We find some young musicians whose destiny would be to become important names like Urbie Green, Don Fagerquist, Bill Perkins, Carl Fontana and many others. Woody's Orchestra may have been the most important white band in the history of Jazz.
