Lone Hill Jazz

Wes Montgomery, Monk Montgomery, Buddy Montgomery, Pony Poindexter, Gildo Mahones, Walter Bolden, Nat Adderley, Cannonball Adderley, Richard Crabtree, Benny Barth

Reference: LHJ10133

Two albums never previously released on CD. This set offers two long-lost Wes Montgomery treasures; an authentic all-star date at San Francisco's Fugazzi Hall in 1959, and a second session with The Mastersounds performing their version of the Broadway revue Kismet. For the first session Jon Hendricks assembled a group of legendary musicians as Wes Montgomery, his brothers Monk and Buddy, Pony Poindexter, Gildo Mahones, Walter Bolden and Nat and Cannonball Adderley - both originally unmentioned in the original release - The band performed ten outstanding tracks that have been collecting dust in the vaults until now.

The pairing of Kismet and the Mastersounds possesses the magic the spectacle pretend. The Mastersounds featured all three of the Montgomery Brothers (Wes, Buddy and Monk ) as well as pianist Richard Crabtree & drummer Benny Barth.

Reviews:

-A Good Git-Together

"On various tracks, Jon Hendricks' first album as a leader, released in 1959, features such major sidemen as altoist Pony Poindexter, guitarist Wes Montgomery, and both Nat and Cannonball Adderley. Hendricks -- who was riding high in Lambert, Hendricks & Ross at the time -- is in superb form on such numbers as "I'm Gonna Shout (Everything Started in the House of the Lord)," a couple of songs that Hendricks had written for Louis Jordan, Randy Weston's "Pretty Strange," "Social Call," and the jubilant "A Good Git-Together."
