Complete Live in Paris 1965 - 2 CDs
Wes Montgomery (g), Harold Mabern (p), Arthur Harper (b), Jimmy Lovelace (d), Johnny Griffin (ts)
This stellar double CD release includes all of the songs performed by Wes Montgomerys quartet, at the Paris Theatre des Champs Elysees on March 27, 1965. It is arguably the best live recording of Wes Montgomery and the sound quality is excellent.
Accompanied by the outstanding pianist Harold Mabern, bassist Arthur Harper, drummer Jimmy Lovelace and special guest, tenor saxophone virtuoso Johnny Griffin, this release is a testimony to the magic of Wes Montgomerys guitar playing, and his ability to innovate and excel in a live performance setting.
When jazz great Joe Pass was asked who the last guitar innovator was, he didnt even hesitate: Wes Montgomery. There hasn't been anything really new since then. To me there have only been three real innovators on the guitar - Wes, Charlie Christian and Django Reinhardt. (Excerpt from the liner notes)
