The exotic sounds and interpretations present throughout these two albums were created by the celebrated Warren Barker, one of the most prolific Hollywood arranger and conductors. The first, “Music of Desire,” is Barker’s thrilling approach to recording the strings in his orchestra. To his new string sound, he added the warmth of wood- winds, the power of horns, and, most important, the compelling rhythms created by his seven-man percussion section. These are sen- suous Latin rhythms tempered by the tenderness of Barker’s caress.

For “Far Away Places” actor William Holden contacted Barker and producer Bill Stewart to put together an album that would musically portray Eastern lands, from Japan to the Philippines, India to Bali. As for the instrumentation, in addition to a full string section, woodwinds, rhythm, and harp, you’ll hear there’s quite a variety. In all, it is an exciting and exotic trip with Oriental and Latin (by way of the Philippines) musical flavor, treated with a velvet touch.
