The Complete New York 1956 RCA Session
This phenomenal release features Tony Scotts complete quartet recordings with the unparalleled bassist Milt Hinton and drummer Osie Johnson. Rounding out the quartet are three different chordal accompanists from three different sessions; pianists Dick Katz and Dick Hyman and guitarist Dick Garcia. The Dick Katz session was recorded in New York on January 20, 1955, and released on Bethlehem under the title East Coast Jazz Series #5. Although Milt Hinton was the leader and protagonist of the session, Tony Scott can be heard here to great effect on both clarinet and bass clarinet.
The session with guitarist Dick Garcia was recorded in New York on January 25 & 26, 1956 for and was released on the album Both Sides Of Tony Scott.
The third and final session featuring Dick Hyman was recorded on February 14, 1958 for MGM and later released on the album Oh, Captain! Organized by Leonard Feather, the date was historically important in that it includes
Scotts first ever recorded solo on baritone saxophone! Scott can also be heard here on tenor saxophone and clarinet.
