Essential recordings by be-bop bassist Tommy Potter for the first time on CD - recorded in Stockholm, Sweden in September 1956 - featuring Rolf Ericson, Benny Bailey, Freddie Redd & Joe Harris. Although he recorded with numerous big stars, these happen to be Potters only dates under his own name !

The bassist made a name for himself as a member of Charlie Parkers quintet for three years. US musicians Potter, Redd, and Harris had been brought to Sweden to play modern jazz by Rolf Ericson, who was then living in the United States.

Six studio sessions were made with the US rhythm section three in a trio format (reissued on our companion volume Freddie Redd in Sweden LHJ 10299), and three more, on this issue, adding different horns to the trio. Other key Swedish musicians involved include : tenor saxophonists Gunnar Hacke Bjorksten (aka Woody Birch) and Erik Nordstrom, trombonist Ake Persson, and baritone saxophonist Stig Gabrielsson.
