The Complete 1955 Holland Concerts
Chet Baker
Featuring: Chet Baker (tp), Dick Twardzik (p), Jimmy Bond (b), Peter Littman (d)
REFERENCE: LHJ10334 BAR CODE: 8436019583340

Chet Baker went to Europe for the first time in 1955, although his recording career had begun just three years earlier, he had already become a big name and his arrival was highly anticipated by European audiences.
The European tour began in Holland with the two concerts presented here. The tour continued with stops in Germany, Switzerland and France. In Paris, pianist Dick Twardzik died from a heroin overdose in his hotel room on October 21, 1955. He was only 24 years old and his early demise was a tragedy for the jazz world. Since then, every scrap of music he recorded has become treasured.
These recordings, thought lost for many years, are of the first European concerts given by the Chet Baker quartet in Holland with the brilliant pianist Dick Twardzik. Including as a bonus, two tracks from the next concert by the same group in Mainz, Germany.
