Supersonic - Portrait of a Genius

This CD gathers some of the more distinguished samples of Tristanos approach to piano, a style which today still manages to sound unusual and instructive. We have included solo and trio performances, plus recordings of Tristano with different groups featuring Lee Konitz and Warne Marsh, his most accomplished pupils. A style of jazz which can be doubtless be defined as Spartan and complex, though it is also fascinating and tremendously expressive. As a bonus, we have added two superb recordings by the Metronome All Stars; of particular interest is Victory Ball, where the pianist performs a perfect, dramatic cascade solo.
