Stan Getz

Featuring: Stan Getz (ts), Oscar Peterson (p), Herb Ellis (g) and Ray Brown (b), Connie Kay (d)

REFERENCE: JT931
BAR CODE: 8436019589311

The complete original album “Stan Getz and the Oscar Peterson Trio” with guitarist Herb Ellis and bassist Ray Brown -widely regarded as one of the saxophonist's finest recordings- and the only studio quartet recording with the two jazz giants. Getz’s collaboration with Oscar Peterson's celebrated unit brought out the best in everyone, with truly creative interplay and absence of drums adding a magical atmosphere to the warm sound of Getz's tenor saxophone on the ballads, while on the swing tunes, Peterson's skill with his left hand combined with Ellis' rhythm guitar work leave no need or free space for a drummer.

This edition includes a bonus track by the same band with the addition of drummer Connie Kay. The ballad 'It Never Entered My mind' was taped during a concert that preceded the Getz-Peterson studio session by only three days.

Review:

"This very enjoyable CD gathers together all of the music recorded at this timeless session. Tenor-saxophonist Stan Getz is joined by pianist Oscar Peterson, guitarist Herb Ellis and bassist Ray Brown for a well-rounded set filled with appealing standards, three Getz originals (two of which are blues) and a fine ballad medley. Everyone is in top form and Getz clearly enjoyed playing with Peterson."
