Notes:

"In the long history of La Locomotora Negra there are certain events that, being cyclic, have become tradition. One of these events is the annual Christmas Eve concert at Cova del Drac (Jazzroom nowadays). For such special occasions, we have progressively added to our songbook popular Christmas carols, both Catalan and from around the world.

There came a point (1992) when we thought that gathering those tunes was a good enough idea that would turn out in an album with a well-defined personality, while being different from our previous works. Clearly, the idea was not new or original, but it had been used scarcely in Catalan jazz recordings. We must confess that it was not easy to make jazz renderings of tunes like “El Noi de la Mare” o “El desembre congelat” without losing their original character.

Almost twenty years after the release of the ‘Round Christmas, we can safely say that it has been our best-selling album. Driven by this success, we have decided to make a new edition, including new carols that were not on the original album, arranged for the seventeen musicians that currently make up La Locomotora Negra.

We hope that, with this new edition—‘Round Christmas plus—listening to carols, both traditional and new, will bring you the same pleasure and excitement that we always try deliver with our music."

"En la dilatada historia de La Locomotora Negra ciertos acontecimientos, por su carácter cíclico, han adquirido la categoría de tradiciones. Uno de estos acontecimientos es el concierto que anualmente ofrecemos el día de Navidad en La Cova del Drac de Barcelona (hoy Jazzroom).

En estas ocasiones tan especiales, nuestro repertorio ha ido incorporando de forma progresiva la interpretación de temas populares navideños, tanto catalanes como de otras procedencias.

Llegó un momento (1992) en el cual pensamos que agrupar estos temas era una idea suficientemente válida para producir un disco con personalidad bien definida y, a la vez, distinto de los otros discos que habíamos publicado. Evidentemente la idea no era nueva ni original, pero en la discografía de jazz catalana se había explotado muy poco.

Debemos confesaros que no ha resultado nada fácil interpretar en el lenguaje del jazz melodías como “El Noi de la Mare” o “El Desembre congelat”, sin que éstas perdieran su carácter original.

Casi veinte años después de la publicación del álbum ‘Round Christmas, podemos afirmar que ha sido el disco que más se ha vendido de toda nuestra discografía. Alentados por este éxito, hemos decidido hacer una nueva edición ampliada con otros temas navideños que no figuraban en el álbum original, arreglados para la actual formación de diecisiete músicos que hoy por hoy integran La Locomotora Negra.

Esperamos que con la presente edición, que hemos titulado ‘Round Christmas plus, la escucha de las canciones navideñas de siempre y las más recientes os produzca el mismo placer y la emoción que siempre intentamos comunicar con nuestra música.
