A film by Thomas Reichman (1968)

This document offers a type of self-portrait, logically very subjective, of the great contrabassist, composer and orchestra director Charles Mingus. A major part of the film was shot during only one night, in November 1966, while Mingus was waiting in his Greenwich Village loft in NYC for the arrival of the police with an eviction order.

This film presents Mingus in an extensive monologue (piano and poetry) and fragments of various performances with a group in a club and rehearsal moments with his big band...

One of the least conventional human testimonies ever filmed about a jazzman.

Total Time: 58 mins
