Complete Studio Recordings
Ralph Sutton Trio
Featuring: Ralph Sutton (p), Jack Lesberg (b), George Wettling (d)
REFERENCE: DRCD 11262 BAR CODE: -

This release contains the complete recordings of pianist Ralph Sutton’s collaboration with drummer George Wettling. Joined by veteran bassist Jack
Lesberg, the trio swings hard on ten exceptional tracks recorded in New York during July of 1950. This session showcases Sutton’s capacity at playing first-rate stride piano in his own personal style.
The edition’s second date features Sutton in a wonderful set recorded in New York during February of 1951. The material for the session consists solely of Fats Waller compositions. Sutton remains true to the great master’s music without ever resorting to imitation. Instead, the pianist uses Waller’s compositions as a point of departure for his own contributions to stride.
