All of Brownie’s private solo piano recordings for the first time ever on a single collection (including many unissued pieces), and all of his tapes practicing the trumpet unaccompanied at home.

The great Clifford Brown used to carry a tape recorder wherever he went - which he used to tape many of his own live performances, as well as rehearsals, both playing alone and with various groups. From those private recordings comes the material on this release.

Among the many bonus tracks, we have included two previously unissued gems from Brownie’s roots: A previously unissued 1952 live performance of “I Come From Jamaica” with a long trumpet solo, Brown’s first live recording ever; a previously unissued trumpet-alto sax duet version of “Ornithology”, played with his teacher Robert Lowery in 1949 or 1950. This rare acetate constitutes Clifford Brown’s first recording ever!
