Organist Billy Larkin and The Delegates immediately came to the attention of the Los Angeles jazz audience when their first record was released, but they also picked up a larger audience when the teenagers discovered they could dance to it. Just as Ramsey Lewis, they had an appeal that far exceeded just the jazz listener. Basically a jazz trio with heavy emphasis on the blues, Billy Larkin and The Delegates was a versatile and dynamic group that reached into all corners of music to come up with a style and an approach that is both fresh and distinctive.
"Más que un disco (que también), lo que aquí cabe destacar es la labor continua de un sello que, por si fuera poco, mantiene abierta su tienda en Barcelona. Fresh Sound sigue con su política de, por un lado, grabar a nuevos talentos y, por otro, reeditar con sumo cuidado grandes obras de la historia del jazz. Para ilustrar esto último hemos escogido el segundo disco (1965) de Billy Larkin & the Delegates, banda señera de soul jazz que, para la ocasión, se hizo acompañar del saxofonista Clifford Scott. Una veintena de composiciones (buena parte de ellas propias, como la muy representativa Pigmy) que orbitan alrededor del órgano Hammond del líder de un trío que hizo furor en la escena jazzística de Los Ángeles.
