Notes:
Coleman Hawkins remained perennially modern with an open ear for innovation. During the mid forties, he invited such musicians as Miles Davis, Fats Navarro, Oscar Pettiford and Max Roach to join his band, and it was thanks to Hawkins that Thelonious Monk first entered a recording studio. He would even record a celebrated date with Sonny Rollins in 1963.
